JLR Scales Back Production
Land Rover will scale back production of Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque models this year, but lead times will not be affected.
In a statement Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) blamed lower demand as a result of uncertainty surrounding Brexit and concerns around the future of petrol and diesel for the temporary cuts, which will not affect staff numbers.
“As is standard business practice, Jaguar Land Rover regularly reviews its production schedules to ensure market demand is balanced. Following a review of planned volumes we are planning to make some temporary adjustments to the production schedule at Halewood in Q2. These changes have been communicated to our workforce,” the company said.
JLR has delivered a record breaking year in vehicle sales, enjoying its seventh-year of successive growth and its highest true fleet sales to date. However, the automotive industry continues to face a range of challenges which are adversely affecting consumer confidence.
Last year demand for new cars was down by 5.7% and according to JLR: “general global economic and political uncertainty is seeing an impact on car sales.”
