New Ceed With Level 2 Autonomy

New Ceed With Level 2 Autonomy

Kia has revealed the all-new Ceed ahead of its official debut at the 2018 Geneva motor show.

The third generation model features a new, more efficient, diesel engine and advanced driver assistance systems.
It will be available by the end of Q2 but prices have not yet been revealed.
The new Ceed is lower, wider, and has a longer rear overhang than the car it replaces. It features ‘ice cube’ LED daytime running lights as standard, echoing the appearance of earlier GT and GT-Line models.

Inside, the Ceed benefits from higher-quality materials. The cabin architecture from the most recent Kia vehicles, such as the Stinger, has been adapted for the Ceed.
The new platform supports a larger, 395-litre boot, as well as greater shoulder room for rear passengers, more headroom in the front row, and a lower driving position.
Lane Following Assist, a ‘Level Two’ autonomous driving technology is available for the first time on a Kia. It tracks vehicles in front of the Ceed in traffic, and identifies appropriate spaces in other lanes to move in to safely to gain more ground in heavy congestion. It detects road markings to keep the Ceed in its lane on the motorway, and controls acceleration, braking and steering depending on the convoy of vehicles in front. The system uses external sensors to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front, operating between 0 and 81mph.
Kia says the Ceed has been engineered exclusively for European roads, with European buyers in mind. The ride and handling characteristics of the new model promise to elevate the Ceed over its predecessor in terms of dynamism and driver engagement.
Petrol options include an updated version of Kia’s 1.0-litre T-GDi engine, producing 120PS, as well as a new 1.4-litre T-GDi unit with 140PS. A 100PS 1.4-litre MPi engine will also be available.
The Ceed is also available with Kia’s all-new U3 diesel engine which uses Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) active emissions control technology to reduce emissions.
The new engine is available with a choice of power outputs (115 and 136ps) and its CO2 emissions are expected to fall below 110g/km.
Every engine will be paired with a six-speed manual transmission, while the new 1.4-litre T-GDi and 1.6-litre CRDi engines will also be available with Kia’s seven-speed double-clutch transmission.
The infotainment system is available with five- or deven-inch touchscreen audio system, or 8.0-inch touchscreen navigation system. A JBL Premium sound system with is optionally available. Standard technologies include full Bluetooth smartphone integration, as well as automatic lights and keyless entry.
Additional available technologies include Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Blind Spot Collision Warning, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning, Smart Parking Assist, and pedestrian recognition with haptic steering wheel warnings for the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system.
